DISTRIBUTION:

Xylophanes fassli flies in
Bolivia (specimen type locality); and
Peru.

CATE: "This species is extremely similar to Xylophanes rothschildi, but The discal spot is larger in fassli; deeper olive-green shading at base absent; the darker green oval patch distal to the discal spot smaller (this patch is larger in Xylophanes rothschildi and Xylophanes blanca, and even smaller in Xylophanes bilineata); postmedian line arising beyond the middle of the inner margin, in the outer third; pink coloration of fringe of inner margin from base to postmedian line visible only on close examination or with the use of a magnifying glass.

ECLOSION:

Pupae probably wiggle to surface from subterranean chambers just prior to eclosion.

SCENTING AND MATING:

Females call in the males with a pheromone released from a gland at the tip of the abdomen.

EGGS, LARVAE, PUPAE:

Larvae probably feed on plants in the Rubiaceae family and Malvaceae families.

Moths emerge approximately one-two months after larvae pupate.
